NJ Offshore Power Boat Racing Association is the oldest Offshore Power Boat Racing Club in the United States. We have held a race in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey for the past 35 years. Some people would argue that the Point Pleasant Beach race is the highlight of the summer at the Jersey Shore. People book vacations and weekend trips around this weeklong event. Local hotel are booked early and local merchants enjoy the added summer time revenues. It’s a win/win for all involved, especially the spectators.

This is one of those rare events that will leave a lasting impression on any child. Most race fans will tell you that they got hooked when their father brought them to see a Benihana race many years ago. NJOPBRA is keeping the dream alive today. If your on the beach or in a boat between Point Pleasant Beach and Bay Head your in for a treat as boats roar down the ocean at speeds up to 115 miles per hour. If the surfs up, the boats will spend more time in the air than in the water. If it’s calm, you’ll see some blistering speeds as the boats scorch the beach.

Over the last five years, NJ Offshore, along with OPA, the local race sanctioning organization has expanded Offshore Racing to other locations in NJ, MD and MA. Click on the 2006 schedule to see more details about each race site.

NJOPBRA is the volunteer group that supports these races. There are no less than twenty support boats on the water at every race. We have an excellent safety record with a response time of less than thirty seconds to accidents. We haven’t even needed to drop a paramedic diver from the helicopter in the last twenty years because our on water assets are so well trained and coordinated by MONOC paramedics.  Racers know that they are well taken care of both on and off the water when they make the trip to Point Pleasant Beach each summer.

You are invited to watch these races for free from land or from your own boat. You owe it to yourself to take the day off and enjoy this incredible motor sport first hand. Or, if you have always wanted to get a little closer to the action then feel free to give us a call and volunteer your time or services during race week. It's a rewarding experience that you will not soon forget.

We encourage you to join our club by contacting Toni Pottoff for further information.

Races are open to boats from 21 to 45 feet, with speeds between 60 and 120mph.

Please take a moment and join our mailing list so we can keep you informed about all NJOPBRA races.

Supported in part through a grant from the New Jersey Commerce Economic Growth and Tourism Commission.
